currently burning a cd of joy division to counteract the mongo beats coming from downstairs…
BEEF JERKY
This weekend we drove up to Painesville to shop for furniture at Miscellaneous Barn. We didn’t find any nightstands, but I stumbled onto a cache of old comics they must’ve picked up at some garage sale. They were selling the stuff for real cheap (a $1 or less per issue), so I ended up getting the complete run of WATCHMEN (except for issue #9…couldn’t find it in the stacks), a couple SWAMP THINGS from when Alan Moore was writing it, and a stack of Frank Miller’s RONIN series.
What is it about shopping at junk places and old used book stores that makes you feel so satisfied? Shopping at the mall/online is just too easy. The clearance rack, now there’s a treasure chest: seeing what the world has left for you…
CRAZY COUNTRY
Our apartment has a big sliding glass door that leads to a balcony that looks out over the street, and for the past couple of days, the sun has been out, big time, so I’ve been sitting there in an old chair Meg reupholstered, reading and sketching folks that walk past on the sidewalk. (Like this guy.) They go by real quick, so you have to try to burn their faces onto your brain, and then sketch like crazy.
It’s a pleasant way to spend your day off.
SILENCE?
Might not post for a while. The sun is out and the birds are singing. Even Wal-Mart was pleasant this morning. I’m working on a short story for writer’s group next week, and a comic I hope to send to Backwards City for #4.
THE MACHINE THAT THINKS LIKE A MAN
lots of sketching during our last writer’s group
AND: Sammy Harkham’s new comic for D & Q.
