SXSW 2012: Everything is a Remix, So Steal Like An Artist

At SXSW Saturday afternoon Kirby Ferguson and I showed clips from his video series Everything Is A Remix and then had a conversation about creativity, influence, and theft. I collected some of the tweets, photos, and other reactions, and there’s already a video online of the whole 55 minutes. (I think SXSW requested that video be taken down, but they have audio of the conversation online.)
Maybe best of all, a small army of visual note-takers were there sketching. Here are notes from Craighton Berman:

- I’m moderating a panel on Tuesday @ 12:30 p.m. called Your Caption Here: How To Manipulate Images Without Photoshop. It’s really just an excuse to hang out and chat with some of my favorite artists and bloggers: Drew Dernavich, Jessica Hagy, Maris Kreizman, and Ross Nover.
- I have a little mini-display of artwork in The Beacon Lounge on the 3rd floor of the convention center, Room 8B/C, where some of my work will be in a silent auction. (Proceeds go to charity.)
- I’m judging the Animated Shorts for SXSW Film. The screening is at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, and I’ll also be at the film awards Tuesday night at 9.
- I’ll be at the Springbox party Friday night at 8

Back in March, my friends Mike Rohde, Sunni Brown, Dave Gray and I presented a panel to a packed house at the SXSW Interactive conference here in Austin, Texas. Last week, they posted a podcast of the session without visuals – so I spent some time syncing our slides to the audio.
