Don’t be deceived by life’s outcomes. Life’s outcomes, while not entirely random, have a huge amount of luck baked into them.

SHARK! (A TEA DRAWING)
Found this tea drawing on my Flickr from about a year ago, but I don’t think I ever posted it here…
LYLE LOVETT AUSTIN CITY LIMITS TAPING
This was the 11th Austin City Limits taping that I’ve had the pleasure of drawing, and the last ever ACL taped in the historic 6A studio on UT’s campus. It was quite a night–thanks to the ACL folks for having me!
I couldn’t not draw the awesome Leland Sklar, or my friend Sara:

LOCAL MUSIC IS SEXY 6
Thanks to Paige and The Austinist for another great Local Music Is Sexy!
TELEPORTAL READINGS 2.1
Experiment with Pano on iPhone + hand drawing — see it much bigger!
I doodled the most recent Teleportal Reading for the folks at Electric Literature.
Teleportal Readings is a multi-media reading series in Austin, TX, which really shakes up the reading. Their most recent event featured Jennifer Egan and Maira Kalman reading live, with a video reading by Doug Dorst, as well as an EL Single Sentence Animation by Joanna Neborsky, and synthy sounds from Silent Diane.
It was so great to meet Maira in person. Her work is amazing.
Funny note: it was so dark where I was drawing that I didn’t notice I was drawing with a red Sharpie! Had to fix in Photoshop after I scanned them.

LOST IN THE TREES ACL STAGE LEFT TAPING
On our way to the Urban Outfitters day show, we got randomly solicited by some KLRU folks for an ACL Stage Left taping, and decided any band in a warm studio with free beer was better than an arctic windy parking lot. Boy, am I glad we did. Lost In The Trees put on an amazing show!
SXSW 2010 LARGEHEARTED LIT AT BOOKPEOPLE
David Gutowski and Jami Attenberg put together this cool little event at Bookpeople, noon on Saturday of SXSW. Jami, Bill Cotter, and Stephen Elliott read and Alina Simone sang some songs. There were munchies and mimosas. It was a good time, and I was really sorry David couldn’t be there. Next year!
PS. Speaking of Bookpeople, mark your calendars: we’re having our Newspaper Blackout release party there on April 13th!
SXSW 2010 GORILLA VS BEAR & MEXICAN SUMMER DAY PARTY
Man, this was such a cool, chill party. I sat up in the balcony at Klub Krucial dead center and drank ice water that the nice dude next to me kept bringing me when he’d go to buy whiskey. I liked all the bands, but I LOVED The Golden Filter and really liked Dum Dum Girls. Thanks, Gorilla Vs. Bear!
UPDATE: Cameron Cantu took this cool pic of me drawing during The Mantles’ set. Thanks, Cameron!
