I’m on book tour promoting Show Your Work! See all upcoming dates or follow me Twitter or Instagram for daily updates.
San Antonio: talked to some super-smart booksellers with my friend Julie Wernersbach from BookPeople, had dinner with one of my heroes, Chip Kidd (here’s a Vine of us goofing around), then I had breakfast with another one of my heroes, Oliver Jeffers. (Check out this photo of my son Oliver took with a Texas-sized cinnamon roll.)
Los Angeles: this would’ve been an amazing trip if not for the fact that I got a stomach bug right in the middle of it and had to go to urgent care. I took the family out with me and we rented a beautiful little apartment in Silver Lake, with a terrific view. Visited some friends, drove to Santa Monica the day before I got sick, but then I rallied for the LA Times Festival of Books, where I hung out with Amy Alkon and her boyfriend, Gregg Sutter, who was Elmore Leonard’s researcher for 33 years! Ended up signing books on the USC field — total revenge of the nerds moment.
Salt Lake City: did an event with Soul Salt at the gorgeous Salt Lake City public library — the roof garden views are spectacular! Had enough time in town to grab a reuben and potato salad from Seigfried’s Deli, then I spoke that night at The King’s English, where I met my longtime internet pal, Adam Koford!
Phoenix: spoke to an awesome group of high school art students at Metro Arts, french toast at La Grande Orange grocery, saw some bunnies and went up into the hills, then we had a packed house at Changing Hands. (A triumphant return!)
Next week: Kansas City and St. Louis.
